Vole guard removal at Carrifran

30.03.2024

We walked along the track at Carrifran until we reached "holy Juniper". From there we fanned out along the track so that we were a few meters apart. The idea is to walk up the hill with a forensic search like formation. However, the chaos of the terrain and planting style means that before long everyone is dispersed and on their own jounrney. There have been some previous attempts to liberate the trees so there are some patches where you don't find many vole guards. In other places, the voleguards are on just about every tree. Unfortunately, sometimes the tree has enveloped the guard which makes it very difficult to extricate every last piece of plastic. In this fashion we Managed to get right up to almost the ridge towards Dun Knowe and returned home with 2 FIBC bags full.
