Some new tree planting and gardening of old trees

We spent the morning planting through an old stock of trees at: 55.3957660437815, -3.4607203112463836.
This is a field that contains wet and dry areas, the wet areas were denoted by reed growth - we planted hazel, oak, birch and rowan on any ground that wasn't wet. The soil was very good condition and although its late in the year to be planting the plugs all seemed healthy and of a substantial size so high hopes for everything that was planted today.

In the afternoon we cleaned up some planting that had occurred a couple of years ago. Those plants were very stunted when they went in so it was good to see that the survival rate was relatively good. Nonetheless, several plants were shrouded in grass so we cleaned around them to help with growth this year. Any dead trees were removed and lopsided/defunct vole guards were straightened up/replaced respectively.

Wildlife highlights

  • Cuckoo flowers (and visiting orange tips)
  • Golden eagle (90% sure - it was quite far away)
